On December 28, 2006, the Native American Rights Fund filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of American Indian and Alaska Native Tribes seeking full and complete accountings of trust funds that the United States government holds as trustee for the Tribes.  These hundreds of accounts are worth billions of dollars and derive from income from tribal resources required by law to be managed by the United States and compensation for the illegal appropriation by the United States of tribal land.  The lawsuit, filed before a December 31, 2006 deadline set by Congress, names twelve Tribes as Plaintiffs, but may affect more than 220 Tribes nationwide.
